ST1.8 STEM learning outcomes demonstrate students’ STEM literacy necessary for the next level of STEM learning and for post- secondary and workforce readiness.
Response:
Our STEM Academy focuses on preparing students for workforce readiness and increased learning outcomes by providing real world challenges.
Our STEM builds and curriculum integration develops intense STEM literacy skills that are necessary for our students to excel at the next level of STEM learning.
Our STEM builds and curriculum integration develops intense STEM literacy skills that are necessary for our students to excel at the next level of STEM learning.
Narrative:
Our curriculum prepares students for college and STEM careers. The teachers generate activities that provide students with real-world problem solving opportunities, require understanding and interpretation of data, and an understanding of advanced math and science concepts. Teacher expose students to middle and high school concepts as many of our students have outgrown the elementary standards they are held accountable for acquiring. Our state of the art science, robotics, coding, and aquaponics labs provide STEM students with enhanced rigor and real-world relevancy.
Strengths:
Our STEM Academy students consistently score well above Non-STEM Academy students on STAR Reading and Math Assessments. Many of our students score two and three grade levels above their peers. Our students utilize the “Problems to Profits” model to help them prepare for 21st century skills and competencies. Our students are able to collaborate with their peers and business partners during STEM presentations. STEM Academy students design their own websites, create marketing plans, and make strategic adjustments as they are needed.
Weaknesses:
Many of our STEM students are progressing and acquiring concepts at an accelerated rate. As a result of this continued growth, we are having to reach out to our business partners to help expand our increasing STEM program. Several of our partners have pledged to provide monetary support, additional business collaboration, provide scholarships, and mentorship programs. We will increase the number of qualitative and quantitative assessments that will help our students demonstrate STEM literacy .
