ST1.4 Students use technology resources to conduct research, demonstrate creative and critical thinking, and communicate and work collaboratively.
Response:
The vast majority of our students excel with the use of technology in their STEM learning experiences. Most of our students use technology to simplify problems, formulate possible solutions, aid in research, and communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
Narrative:
McNair Academy STEM teachers integrate technology, science, and mathematics concepts into their daily plans. Some of the technology tools and resources we use are: PowerPoint, Prezi, Discovery Learning (simulated lessons), and WebQuests. These tools are used to assist in the completion of math and science-based projects. Through this hands-on approach, our students learn to reflect on the problem-solving process. The Engineering Design process is also utilized to bridge science, technology, and mathematics through student construction of STEM artifacts.
Technology-literate students know and understand that technology is the manipulation of our environmental resources that assist us in meeting our basic needs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, most of the largest STEM occupations are related to computers. Atlanta, Georgia happens to be number one in regards to having a strong concentration and large volume of available STEM careers.

Strengths:
In March we had two engineers volunteer in our STEM classrooms to interact one-on-one with students and share the excitement of STEM. They introduced students (via technology) to virtual worlds and allowed them to wear adaptive equipment to manipulate their given environment. Our students benefit from intense technology integration, 3D printers, and Makey Makey devices.
Weaknesses:
Because we are a 100% free and reduced school many of our students do not have technology to help extend the school day. We are working with our business partners to increase the number of ipads and other electronic devices our students can take home.
